Haseeb Hameed to debut as England opener in Rajkot
Alastair Cook confirmed that Haseeb Hameed, the nineteen-year old Lancashire batsman, will be his opening partner for the first Test against India at Rajkot starting Wednesday (November 9).
Cook also revealed that Hameed’s debut would mean Ben Duckett, who opened in the two Tests in Bangladesh, will now bat at No. 4.
Gary Ballance, who batted in the middle-order in Bangladesh, registered scores of 1,9,9 and 5 in the two Tests and has been dropped for the series opener in India. The poor showing has resulted in England shuffling their batting order quite a bit to accommodate a teenaged opener and shunting an opener who scored a fifty in his last innings from that position.
