While VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid scripted a wonderful turnaround to leave the touring Australian side stunned. Having lost the opening Test in Mumbai and having been made to comply with on within the 2nd Test, India’s fortunes in the 3-match series had gone south. Day 4 of the Kolkata Test started with India at 257/4 in the 2nd innings, nonetheless 20 short of Australia’s 1st innings score. Laxman and Dravid batted, batted and batted some extra. When umpires signalled stumps at the end of the day’s play, India had reached 589/4, a lead of 335! Laxman had 275* and Dravid 155*. The duo ended with 281 and 180 respectively before Harbhajan Singh spun a web around the Australians inside the 2nd innings to provide India a historic win. They went on to win the 3rd Test in Chennai to complete a tremendous turnaround.
